I'd like to dedicate more of my free time more towards upping my video editing skills, so for now this blog is officially stopped. I can't see myself starting it up again while doing the video journal, but there is no sense in blasting it off the Blogger list just yet.

Have fun out there,
I've been looking, journal. Summer is at an end and I didn't exactly rake them in by the hundreds. I only just passed 207 caches. Obviously I am still a neophyte, and so I rely a bit on luck which as you know is not that reliable, and the fact that I don't have problems bugging the cache owners for more clues via the message center on the geocaching site. They seem to be a friendly bunch, and I look forward to one day having a list of contacts of experienced geocachers ready and willing to offer up some tips or hints, or even join me for a few finds.

In order to make my intangible geosense grow, I decided it was time for me to place my first multicache to experience geocaching from that end of the stick.
I wanted my cache to have a simple story to tie together several areas that were involved in this beach/woods area that has funky old bits from a water pump station (I am guessing.)

It is called The Cell, The Box, and The Key

I am pleased that all 9 people that have found it so far have given it a favorite point. They really like taking their pictures in the cell, if you watched the video you know I have a hard on for the term "cellfie," and I hope that the cache lasts long enough to gather a wide variety of geocachers climbing down in to my little trapped cell. 0o0o! Danger awaits! That is me in the first picture, and then to random geocachers braving the funky Delaware waters.

I don't know if I gained any extra perspective or geosense when placing my game pieces here. I certainly felt a small sense of satisfaction when it turned out to NOT be messed up and people actually found it. I feel like I am contributing! I have an idea for a dastardly cache, something I have not scene anywhere...something that I must keep secret until it is already in place.

Ahh, those must have been the days, drifting down the canal on a barge, your fishing line dragging lazily from the back (or whatever the nautical term is) as your son cleans out the fish-gut barrel. This fence and it's portrayal of "canal life" were going to be clues as part of a large multicache I was thinking about over the winter. In the past few weeks I have been trying to pull it all together and I bit off more than I can chew. Aside from the fact that there were seven stages, I had placed several on what turned out to be State Park property, which requires a form and registration fee of $25 per cache location. Also, some of the things I hid got flooded out or muggled (found a cigarette but in a micro that I didn't tell anyone about) and overall my idea was poorly executed.

So, instead of a huge multi, I decided to make a smaller multi and maybe a separate traditional cache and virtual one made of my aborted stages. I'm waiting with baited breath to see if my submissions have been accepted. I just happened to film a lot of stuff before realizing I couldn't use it for geocaching, and I'd hate to just delete the footage without sharing my ideas since I have not spent too much time LOOKING for geocaches. So this is what will NOT be a cache. There is no music or VO, and the cuts are harsh, but you'll get the idea I had for it.

That was my grand idea for that tree. Turns out that whole area is going to be smashed for 32 new homes, so that is depressing. I think some creature was also vying for that spot as a home, so they can have it for as long as it is left.

Hopefully in the next few days you will see my first operational and accepted multicache, and then I'll get back to my quest.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6033034899321821754.post-13728486173299786842015-04-11T17:01:00.001-07:002015-04-11T17:01:31.422-07:00The Man At The Top Of The Stairs

I did give the cache a go after that, but I made two mistakes. The first was that I possibly didn't do my math right. I think. I don't know. THe coordinates I came up with after making it to the spot the CO wanted me to and counting the things he wanted me to count put the second stage half a mile away. I could be right, but my second mistake, looking up old pictures of how this stone garden used to look, took the rest of my steam, and I decided to just head back to the finish line. I did pick up a simple micro cache along the way back the Schuylkill, but it isn't particularly noteworthy.

Anyroad, I certainly need to get back down to the Fairmount Park and Center City area when it is nice and sunny, to wash this minor experience out of my brain.

The seventh entry integrates the new camera and premium caches with my poor searching skills, and in keeping with the spirit of geocaching I am not plastering information all over the screen in regards to location or names of caches. After reading a few comments on videos and exchanging a few words with others, I figure I will be alright with occasional 100% pure-spoiling (perhaps if the cache name is a clever pun, or an obvious low-level entry cache, or some mechanism on the cache is of fine craftsmanship) but for the most part on-screen information will be sporadic. The only exception will be premium caches; I will try to make sure I don't cheese off the hardcore community.

The Comfy Video below was supposed to be part of this entry, but I decided against using footage with raindrops on the lens for the main entry and the other stuff was just ammo cans under some bits of tree. Terrible weekend as far as geocaching goes, but I do enjoy getting out there like a wizard.
I have completely forgotten about two things that I wanted. The first was to have a cache count at the end of each video, or at least at the end of each Main Entry. Forgot to do that. I do have a little add-on on my sidebar now that displays my current progress. Anyway, the video below is what I should have put in on the end of the Main Entry video that gets uploaded to the Geocaching Video Only channel, because why bother uploading it twice if there is not some subtle difference in them vis-à-vis some bonus footage? That was number two? Was I doing numbers? I hate it when I get stuck on a number two.

The first part is thirty or so seconds of me highlighting why most history is boring. In the second part, I was trying to get a quick shot of me chilling and eating by the stream. You know, filler video for narration. I just got done my snack, and popped the last bit in my mouth and...

I had some business in Camden, New Jersey near the campus area, which is near the waterfront area, so I popped down to see if I could snag any of the four high-favorited caches. The one I was looking for in the image above is called SJCC: Greenbrier which has nothing to do with the Battleship New Jersey in the background:

America's most decorated Battleship is now the area's most exciting museum, open for tours, events and overnight encampments. I wish I was there during open hours for the walk-in tour. That thing is a bad-ass looking warship. I found the cache, but I didn't have a working pen, so I took a picture of it to send to the CO as proof. It was rated a difficulty of a 3, but the coordinates seemed pretty spot on for me. I guess things would be different if it was the middle of the summer, with this place crammed with people. When I was younger, the lot of us would take the river ferry from Penn's Landing in PA to this waterfront to the Tweeter Center to go to concerts. Plus, the Adventure Aquarium is nearby, and the whole Philadelphia skyline is always nice for a good photo or two.
There was also a simple cache located behind the Adventure Aquarium, which is usually kicking it no matter what season it is, I took a quick pic of the line before heading around to snag the cache and maybe some footage for the Main Entry, which I should really get to work on.

There are four caches in the area, and I certainly would like to return here when the weather is more forgiving on the electronics. For now, I'll settle on just having the ground dry out.

I like the snow. I really do. I even like the ice, when I am on foot. However, these multiple layers that the East Coast has been blasted with destroyed plans either by restricting traffic, or by parks and parking areas not being open. Also, the recent and constant below-freezing temps play havoc with the slightest moisture trapped inside geocaches, making log-retrieval impossible without damaging the goods.

So my quest has been brought to a stand-still for the past week and a half. This should be the end of Winter. Today and tomorrow should be the last two days of this arctic simulator. March looks astonishingly ice-free and I hope to get to the Fat Man and Little Boy of Philadelphia parks: Wissahickon Park and Pennypack Park. I'm also hopeful that in between those I'll get to New Jersey's Pine Barrens to get the cobwebs off my body and ride the bike a tad. Bike = more caches per hour, so I am looking forward to that. I do like the snow and the winter landscapes, but now I want to see some green again.

It turns out that the person who made Premium Cache Alpha has made several puzzle caches all in separate wooded areas, and like the first one this one was not difficult to find. I even managed a puzzle built for two, but got hung up on some little box that may or may not summon something from Clive Barker's imagination. This cache is a Difficulty 4.

In the middle of my preparations, a man (who I will refer to as The Chanter) came walking through and although I had moved away from the cache itself, it still seemed like it stood out right over my shoulder while we were talking. The dude seemed normal enough. We talked about drones and owls. He sang more. Really set a mood as the sun set.

Part of me wants to just...borrow the puzzle piece for a night or two. I mean, I won't. I highly doubt it. It doesn't appear to be found that often, most likely because you need to have a spare gallon or two of water with you, not to mention another set of hands, or in this case my neighbor.

Hey Journal. I haven't been on any lengthy sojourns recently, but I have been popping off here and there to bolster my numbers. I have several personal obstacles to overcome, two of which are wanderlust and lack of focus. I can plan out a route and try to get many caches in a short time, but I get distracted by pretty colors and doodads.

I also have it in my head to "close out" the Washington Crossing Park area. Something in my brain wants all the smileys filled in there. Perhaps it is just some basic OCD-esq desire to have the map look uniform, or maybe this happens to all geocachers at some point. Anyway, I'm having trouble with two caches in particular, but when I find them, you'll know.

I enjoy the snow. Like a lot of people, I particularly enjoy how a small layer of snow can make any landscape instantly more inviting, but it does make searching for ground-based caches more difficult. Not complaining, just explaining. Personally, I think it adds an extra element of fun. I just don't record myself cursing the gods when I don't find something.

The first part is the flagpole cache, which I thought was a pretty cool, but the second stage was anti-climactic and placed in (what I think) is a poor area due to the high frequency of homeless people smoking crack there. I still need to work on the Hat Cam.

The second part highlights what I was saying about the snow. Things look cool, but if there is any GPS bounce you are going to be spending a lot of time digging in Scooby Doo mode.

The third part is just me trying to justify why I threw out a cache. Did I do the right thing? I'm 90% sure I did. I looked around for a good bit before finding cache contents but no cache, and then I looked around some more for the container. I read some entries online and determined it had been this way for awhile, so I took what debris that was left and threw it out. I did right, yes Journal?

I finally got around to rewarding myself with a Premium Membership, and there happened to be one in a small bit of woods right off a major highway. Just because caches are set to Premium-Only doesn't mean they are going to be fantastic, but this one also has 33 favorite points.
Oh shit, that's right! I can give favorite points out now! I totally forgot to check that out!

Sorry. I'm back.

Anyway, what I would like to note is that I am probably going to be a tad more reserved with the information given out/shown in regards to Premium caches. The road to 10K will be a long one, so I don't want to go pissing off the more hardcore players. I'm sure I can present things in such a way so as to not have it show up in any spoiler-searches.
I'm calling this cache Premium Alpha, and it is a Difficulty 4 and Terrain 2.5 for those of you using the chart on the sidebar to your right.

The first half of the video is my "hat cam" that I activated when I was about 300ft from my target. Then it switches to split-view, which I kind of botched, but you get the idea. If you just want to bypass me larping some S.T.A.L.K.E.R., then advance to about the 4:40 mark.

The cache owner pretty much tells you were to look in his description (although in the snow most landmarks were not visible) but this is the second time where I just put my hand on a cache while passing by it.
I'm not transcribing the riddles here, for search reasons, and in fact if I had bothered to use my phone to search for some answers I might have opened it right there. However, even though I now sit here with Internet-assisted answers, my answer to the Black Riddle is only four letters long, and all the locks appear to be five letters long. I mean, it has to be fire, right? Am I missing something?

Looks like I won't know until I return to the cache. I'll keep you posted.
I showed this picture to my friend Owen (he is from London) and he asked, "Is this what Christmas in America is like?"
I don't talk to him anymore. He doesn't geocache anyway.
The sculpture represents the hostages from the Iran hostage crisis, and as such it has been used as a clue in a whimsical GPS-based game of hide-and-seek. Nothing is hidden on it, but you needed information from it to complete a multicache at this park. It is part of a growing mental catalog I keep of creepy-ass sculptures that seem to dot the area.

After reading a bit on my phone, it occurred to me that in the course of geocaching, people will lead you around and have you acquire such random information for their puzzles. That is what I thought the theme would be for Entry #006, but my thoughts and opinions on pointless stuff ended up dominating the final edit.
The first cache in the video, Dance a Jig, makes excellent use of a virtual jigsaw puzzle, and I thoroughly hated all 52 minutes of putting it together to get the coords. It did make me feel more accomplished when I found the cache, so maybe really, really minor adversity can build character! That cache and half a dozen others (including Under The Boardwalk and Vets Park Never Forget) were located in Veterans Park in New Jersey.

Where I had the most jollies was at Pioneer Day Passageway, and if you are a Mormon, please let me know as I have some questions for you. Anyway, there is whole separate post for that cache. A most enjoyable location. The same goes for Delhaas A Wall. They are the entries right before this one.

I just looked in to the whole mule-thing from Shadowy Span. It turns out that, for some reason, a bunch of private investors spent about $90,000 to "place 300 decorated fiberglass mules along the 165-mile canal corridor next spring, from Wilkes Barre to Bristol, which includes the Delaware Canal State Park." source. It is called the Miles of Mules.
Now, this was well over a decade ago, and in fact I know I have seen at least two more in my travels. Apparently some were moved, some destroyed, some auctioned, etc...
According to this website which has pictures of known-locations for mules, our pal by the cache is called Salvaged and not, as I had hoped, Cenobite. Regardless, I think I have a new sub-quest. I also think I know where one mule is that has not been listed for a decade!

And here I was thinking geocaching was pretty weird...

PLEASE NOTE: In an effort to not be a total Spoiler Man, I am no longer linking the cache names with their respective geocache.com listing, nor tagging by name on the YouTube videos. If I want to find 10k caches, I best not make too many enemies!

I was scoping out this little park for placement of a multicache I have been working on. Turns out the spot is already taken! In the "Additional Waypoints" of the cache description there is a bunker listed as a reference point.

Although the cache had a mere single favorite point, I thought it would be a good area to test out a new camera, so that is what most of the footage is. It does look nice when I render it in more detail, but I didn't do that here. The actual geocache is towards the end of this four minute clip, and it is unremarkable. Sometimes when the GPS doesn't settle down, you just have to spiral out from your best guess and check some obvious places. If this were a micro, I would have been screwed. It is certainly a fun area to muck about for a little bit and grab a selfie, and if this cache ever goes dormant or is archived I am coming back to put one in the center of the bunker on the inside.

If you want to hear a very brief commentary on certain types of items found in caches, jump to 3:41. Remember, supplemental entries are not going to have all the pizzazz of the main entries, and I haven't fully messed around with this new cam or any sort of rigging for it, but at least it handles motion better than my older one.
A variety of micro caches here, all for ten bucks at a yard sale. The black one is a nano, and the screw is hollow; the top comes off and has room for a very small logbook. Insane! Gotta do some stuff with these.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6033034899321821754.post-35940488277787530782014-12-23T08:11:00.000-08:002014-12-23T08:11:12.312-08:00Supplemental Entry: Pioneer Day Passageway

Supplemental Entries are more personal than the main entries. There are no overlays or maps or voice-overs. Sometimes I will seek out a specific cache because of the amount of favorite points it has, or I have heard or seen something that leads me to believe it would look good in the Main Entries, and then I try and hit the surrounding caches while I am there.

There is only one geocache in this video, at 7:00 minutes or so. Everything before is vibe, and the stuff after is just me going on about whether I like to be alone or have company. Vloggy stuff, really. When I look back on this entry, I want to feel the mood I felt while I was there, which was kind of spooked because of that PERSISTENT YET SPORADIC HAMMERING SOUND DEVOID OF RHYTHM and general location and setting. I'm not far from humanity at all, but I had traveled from the parking lot through the woods to this little tunnel, and I hadn't seen a soul. Plus, Fall is SPOOOOKY, right?
It turns out Pioneer Day is a holiday, and it is on the day the cache was released. Meh. The wind was blowing my tripod all over the place and I was testing out a hands-free thingie I made for my GPS, so I couldn't be too bothered by some Utah-based holiday for Mormons.
Why wouldn't I want to start off this entry with an image of Han Solo in a dubious position over someone's trackable coin while Chewbacca stands behind him in an attempt to dislodge something from one of Han's orifices? It's absolutely relevant if you watch the video entry.

I had to combine two attempts at Mercer County Park. The first time I went in the spring, I was in the process of recording at their war memorial while finding Purple Heart, and some gnarly old veteran came in and started having an emotional moment, so I let him be, but my spirit was sapped so I went home to have a good think. The lure of the park's 50 caches brought me back in the fall, which turned out to be a really windy day, but dry enough for me to quest for 10 caches.

I may have a dash of Phil Filming Himself Riding A Bicycle Syndrome, because it is the only way I know how to indicate travel on video. This entry also hammers home, and suffers from, the fact that regular caches hidden in the woods are not that interesting. I'm not bothering too much with notes here because everything was pretty standard and vanilla. I'm not putting down the caches or anything, but maybe I am rushing myself here to get caught up on my timeline so I can publish the blog. There isn't too much to add when you have already filmed yourself finding a box in the woods.

I can't stress enough how delightful it was to ride the twisty-but-level trails in this park, and I hope that comes through in the video. As far as geocaching goes, you can't beat the amount of caches you can find in one day in this one area.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6033034899321821754.post-55752532465485179842014-12-20T10:01:00.000-08:002014-12-20T10:01:44.306-08:00SPACE 2081: A Geocaching Odyssey In the first main journal entry, I mentioned that the cache SPACE2081 [4.5/2.5] Broken Arrow was part of a larger series, and that I would explain later. Now, it is later.

The SPACE 2081 series is apparently run by several or more people in the Southeastern Pennsylvania area. In fact SPACE stands for "Southeastern Pennsylvania Association of Caching Enthusiasts," and they have placed 81 space-related (fact or fiction) caches around the way, one for every Difficulty and Terrain Rating combination available from the main geocaching site. They generally write the combination in the cache title, as seen above. Take a look at my sidebar and you will see the "star charts."

Each cache has a code in it, and when all 81 of these codes are in hand, then they can be used to find out the location of the 82nd and final cache. So far, I have found 4, and I totally forget what the codes were in two of them. There are no shortcuts here; you need to have the logs signed and you need to have all the clues to get to the final.
The first is that they have not released all 81 caches yet. This endeavor of theirs appears to have only started in the past year or so, but they seem good on keeping things well-maintained, and the caches and hides themselves are creative and somewhat more thoughtful than other caches around the area. The second thing I realized is that the last one I found, called SPACE2081 [3.5/5.0] GeoForce Be With You, actually had you stretching out in an iconic pose. I could see if you were shorter how you might wish you could do a Force Pull here, but I did not have that problem.

So, as far as getting some nice and creative caches on camera for the journal, SPACE caches seem the way to go. I'm going to try my best to not include the actual codes required in the video, because Screw You! While there are obviously location spoilers in this journal, you are still going to have to go out there and get the codes yourself!

I realize I already screwed this up with the Broken Arrow one in the first entry by not blurring out the code, but what can you do?
Of note here is my revisit to Where's The Fiddler (from Entry #002) to make amends for my unmanly behavior last time I was there. Also, another SPACE2081 cache or two, so I will definitely have to make the next entry about them, because no one will know what the hell I am talking about unless you live nearby.

It's killing me not being able to find even the work files for the video. I hope I find them for the pictures. I was mostly along the Delaware Canal, so it's not like I was missing out on too many new shots, and the video has long been finished and uploaded to YouTube. Still...where the hell are those files?

I started with Where's The Fiddler, which is one of those caches where you end up second guessing your interest in this hobby. Assuming you watched the entry, you'll be happy to know someone posted a comment on the video identifying those little bastards in the sewer.
Rhaphidophoridae, or cave crickets, are horrendous little shits with long legs that seek to jump in to your open and exposed mouth and skitter down your throat to lay eggs right above your stomach. In case you couldn't tell from the video, I can't wait to come back here!

After about 4 or 5 minutes of not actually seeing a cache, we reach SPACE2081 [3.5/5.0] GeoForce Be With You. This one had a terrain rating of 5 stars (which is the maximum, as per the charts on the sidebar) and while I don't think it deserved it (stretching over water is maybe a 3.5 in my book) it certainly deserves the 30 favorite points it has. I don't want to keep going off about this series of caches until the next entry, but these are something to look forward to. I'm glad I found this one.

I ditched my bike and started walking uphill to Vulture View, which did have a nice view for me, and all I can remember about the cache itself was that it had a blue serving dish shaped like a fish in it. What the hell? I went back on the ski lift side of the hill (they like to slap the term "mountain" around a lot up here) to get another Space cache called SPACE2081 [1.5/3.0] DeLorean Wheels. Another clever one, and if I never find those missing files, I know I will get more photo opportunities, because I forgot to sign the log and grab the special code from this hide.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6033034899321821754.post-89667456866045171572014-12-15T09:08:00.000-08:002014-12-15T09:08:47.153-08:00Main Journal Entry #003

It's a dash more playful, and it has basic map effects to help give you a sense of location. A major chunk of the video is in Trenton, which was more photogenic than I thought. Plus, it wasn't windy, which it always seems to be when I am out.

Part of me wishes that I included more geocaches that I actually found, but what is the point of a journal if I omit the bad stuff? I'd also just like to point out that New Jersey does not have the official nickname of Ol' Stinky, that is just something I made up. Affectionately, I'm sure. Everything else in the video is legit.
Like I say in the video, war memorials are background noise to me here, but just because I am not reading every engraving and plaque doesn't mean I can't appreciate how things look. Lady Victory herself is an impressive statue in front of the State House, and the running water on the walls was a nice touch. Hmm, in looking at the listing for this cache again to get the link for this blog, I noticed that it has been reactivated. Good! I'll have to try to pick it off.
Ok, if you have watched the entry, you have to let me know if I am the only one that thinks the statue is kind of off-putting. Or maybe it is just because I am suggesting it here. No! It's creepy, dammit! I stand by my original feelings on the matter. Don't get me started again on the creepy ring of children on the way to the next cache. Anyway, I like virtual caches. No fuss, no muss.
fothermucker, too. Interesting machinery, most likely to load steel and other heavy material on to ships. Oh! Looking at the listing now, I see there is good news and bad news. The good news is that no one else has found it either, so it is probably missing, which makes me feel better about my searching skills. The bad news is I saw this picture posted by uminski, which shows one of the reasons why you shouldn't go for these Trenton ones late at night.
HBO's True Detective was fresh in my head when I got there, so maybe that affected my ability to find the cache. Unfortunately, most of the "exploration" video (all 7 minutes of it) was jittery and potato-like, but I was able to put some in the entry.
I don't know why I find this photo bad-ass, but I do. It activates my fantasy nodes somehow. All the other trees worship The One. There is the view from an observation perch on a trail in a place called the Dyson Tract, which these days is a lovely bit of public park area.

Entry #002 is comprised of video from summer, winter and fall. The Dyson Tract outing was from the winter, and looks to be a good training ground that sits right on a crossover between two major bike paths. I picked up several caches on the way to one that had many favorite points called "12/25" a lot of people were saying how neat and simple this hide is, with clever use of a simple and common tool. I agree with them, and the name of the cache makes sense after finding it.

The cache "White Square" was about the only noteworthy or outstanding cache located on Baldpate Mountain (near the Abandoned Farm) when I was there in the summer. I wish I could find that damn folder or drive that has these old photos. Alas, I think they are lost. This is also one of the driving reasons to make this blog, because Google will remember the pictures for me. FOREVER.

Finally, in Washington Crossing Historic Park, we have Over The Rainbow, a "field puzzle" in that you don't know what you have to do to get to the next stage until you get to the first one. Fortunately I am familiar with Roy G. Biv, so the puzzle didn't cause me any distress. It was a wonderful Fall day. Halloween of last year, actually. I found a few caches that day but for the most part I just wandered around like I had never seen colors before. I didn't see anyone else that day, which is fine by me. Felt like I had the whole place to myself.
Perhaps I should actually embed the video in the blogger entry, and not just make references to it.
In fact the first cache is a multiple-stage affair that someone put a bit of time and effort in to and really draws you in to the hobby. Kicking away at the ice and snow on a hill in a nature preserve to find a weird metal box with a button and a speaker will certainly stand out in my memories for some time.

There are still some recording snafus but all-in-all things turned out OK. I lucked out with my $12 paper-thin tripod and managed to turn out a picture or two. The opening shot of the frozen lake covered in snow and more ice turned out pretty good.

The caches in this video are:

Space2081: Broken Arrow

Stuart's Hitchiker

I know, only two caches, but you have to admit Broken Arrow is pretty cool, and held my attention on multiple trips. Not that the tree one isn't without merit, but unscrewing the fins from a missile felt slightly cooler. I'll get in to the Space2081 cache series after entry #004.

I don't have any supplemental pictures or videos for my maiden "main journal" entry. I feel like there is a folder hiding somewhere that has a bunch of stuff I need. When I find it, I will bust it in here.
I just recently read that someone visiting Stage 2 (the one near the railroad tracks close to the private homes) had the police called on them. Nothing happened to them, but there is contention about public vs. private land, so who knows how that will turn out. Glad I got there when I did!

I don't want to get in to a history lesson here because the video for this is a probably-too-long 44 minutes as I barrel through the scenery going from location to location. Also, I am mostly ignorant on the history, and since I am sure I will be visiting this place often to rack up the cache finds, I can always delve in to it later.

I will list the caches visited (found or not) on this day, however. That is one thing I would like to have listed in my journal.

Note 1 - I didn't know what the Space2081 cache series was at the time.

Note 2 - Perils of Pauline is one of my first "unique" caches and is really quite devious.

Note 3 - This note is simply to point out that I really did fart in a jar and try to contain it. Do I think this really worked? No. I am pleased to say that someone found it and had a chuckle from it.

Note 4 - This one is listed as "not found," despite the video, because stretchwell took it upon himself to contact me and tell me what I found was not the actual cache. Damnit!

Note 5 - Hopefully this cache will not be a major thorn in my side, what with the new-found fear of having weird bugs jump in my mouth in the dark and enclosed place. I have already failed again in the Main Journal Entry #004.

And finally, because I have no other place to really put it, is a recording from my handle-bar cam (which is there for safety issues, not vlogging ones) in which I follow a man on a recumbent bicycle down the canal path because I found his overall locomotion fascinating. I accidentally blasted him with mud at the end, but hey, don't ride so close to the ground? He said that is why he had goggles on, but apparently the goggles do nothing.

If you live near the New Hope, PA and Lambertville, NJ area and you like riding bikes and/or geocaching, then you need to get on down there and spend the day riding the Delaware Canal Path, an easy and level public trail that is also a maintained State park. It can offer both a bit of solitude as you travel north and a bit of town life by the bridges. The New Hope area, while small, can get pretty jumping with its clubs, bars and shops. If you can time it to ride in the day and walk around the main street at night, then you are golden. It is worth a drive of up to (and including!) 3 hours. I have about 30 pictures to give you the feel of the area as far as riding and geocaching goes. The caches around this way are varied enough to keep you interested, and there are enough that you will be able to make many trips out of it.

Before I had any real intention of finding ten-thousand geocaches, I was just sporadically filming some finds to get used to recording and editing. I fucked a lot of things up as far as frame rates and resolution and whatnots. In the course of those videos I ran in to a couple of places that I would like to officially preserve in my memory as Neato Places I Enjoyed Poking Around At. Unfortunately, those videos are shit and the bare-bones level of recording and editing skill I am at now are the result of multiple failed attempts.
Two places that I was lead to stand out enough that I am willing to overlook the poor quality and embed here for my perusal later. I guess I am one of those people that likes "abandoned porn" as some call it. There aren't any geocaches in the following pictures or videos. Just two places that I like. The first is some old shell of a house that sits in New Jersey on the property called Rancocas Park. I saw it mentioned in the comments of a nearby cache and give it a wander-thru. It's almost right in the middle of the park, and if you were worried that someone hadn't spray-painted some cocks on it, fear not! The phalli are there. There weren't any people about, and it didn't smell like any body fluids, so I was able to pretend (internally) I was in a Life After Humans scenario, or maybe if you are a gamer I can refer to it as that "Fallout Feeling" that sometimes I find a bit serene.
It took me a while, but eventually I realized I was recording at one frame rate and rendering in another. So, now I have a nice reference point for these videos, and I am sure I will pop back to those locations to sweep up the surrounding caches.

I don't expect to publish this blog until I get some posts in and catch up to the present, and I need to refresh my memory on how to operate the ol' blogger. This is the first post after creating the basic template. I just needed some Lorem Ipsum to see what things look like, but I feel compelled to share something for the people that bothered coming back this far.

I thought maybe my first image could (or at least attempt a strong "should") encapsulate what I enjoy about geocaching, which is simply that it is one more reason to get me out. I don't travel enough to find interesting places or views on my own, which is a pity because there seem to be tons of them right under my nose.
You'd think I'd use that to segue right in to "...and that is why I have vowed to find 10,000 geocaches!" but that ain't happening right now. I need to mess around with the look of things.
If you are reading this, then enjoy this unlisted video of me straight trippin'.
